The temple’s symbol is a large Buddha head made of ceramics, which was created about 300 years ago.

History of The Great Head of Buddha
The rare ceramic statue 2.5 meters high of This Shaka Nyorai , which you can see only from the shoulders up, it is said to have been built by Lord Mitsutomo Tokugawa, lord of Nagoya Castle, for the condolences of his deceased mother. It is thought that a whole body of statue was built in Nagoya, including the part from the neck down. But until now, it was not known exactly where body has gone. The Buddha statue was formerly enshrined in Nagoya Castle before it was dedicated to Fukusenji Temple after the Second World War in 1945.
Thatched roof
Fukusenji Temple is located on the Atami City side of the Chitose River, about 80 meters downstream from the Izumi Ohashi Bridge over the Chitose River. This is the only thatched roof in Atami City. It was rebuilt in 1875 and has a stately appearance.
